Why Recognizing Your Own Value is Essential for Professional and Personal Success

In my journey toward success, I have learned many valuable lessons, but none as crucial as recognizing my own value. For years, I fought tirelessly to achieve my professional and personal goals, only to find myself stuck repeatedly. It wasn’t until I understood and accepted my true worth that I could truly thrive. Today, I want to share this experience with you, hoping it can be a source of inspiration and guidance on your own journey.

The Beginning of the Journey: The Struggle for Success

From a very young age, I dreamed of achieving great things. I emigrated to the United States from Colombia, hoping to build a better life for myself and my family. Like many immigrants, I faced countless challenges, from language barriers to economic difficulties. However, my determination never wavered. I worked hard, studied relentlessly, and strove to integrate into this new society.

Despite all my efforts, I felt I was not achieving everything I set out to do. I found myself in a constant struggle, working long hours and sacrificing time with my family, but not seeing the results I expected. It was frustrating and discouraging. I wondered what I was doing wrong, why I couldn’t achieve the success I so desired.

The Awakening: Recognizing My Value

The change began when I started reflecting on my life and my achievements. I realized that, although I was working hard, I was not valuing myself adequately. I wasn’t recognizing my strengths, skills, and the sacrifices I had made. I was allowing others to define my value instead of doing it myself.

I began to understand that my value did not depend on others’ approval or comparisons to others’ successes. My value was inherent and unique. I started to change my mindset, focus on my qualities, and acknowledge my achievements, no matter how small they seemed. This new perspective not only strengthened my self-esteem but also changed how I presented myself to the world.

The Transformation: The Impact on My Professional Life

Recognizing my own value had an immediate impact on my professional life. I felt more confident in my decisions and my ability to lead. I began to set clear boundaries, say no” when necessary, and better negotiate my work conditions. This not only allowed me to achieve a greater balance between my personal and professional life but also opened doors to new opportunities.

One of the key moments was when I decided to found my own firm, Quiroga Law Office, PLLC. Initially, the idea of entrepreneurship terrified me. However, with my new mindset, I was ready to face the challenge. I knew I had the skills and passion needed to succeed. And although the path was not easy, confidence in my value was crucial to overcoming obstacles and building a prosperous business.

The Importance of Support and Community

During this process, the support of my wife Casey and my family was invaluable. Casey, in particular, played a crucial role in my personal and professional growth. Her love, understanding, and constant support gave me the strength to keep going even in the most challenging times. Together, we have built a beautiful family and a successful business based on mutual respect and recognizing each other’s value.

Additionally, finding a community that supported and inspired me was essential. The immigrant community, particularly the Mexican community, has been a constant source of strength and resilience. I learned a lot from their stories of struggle and success, and I felt deeply connected to their indomitable spirit. This sense of belonging and mutual support reinforced my belief in my own value and the value of others.
